psx-comBINe[edit source]

Since when POP-FE converts CUE/BIN games to EBOOT.PBP and not PKG? In my case, it always converted them to the latter. You state to convert some games to EBOOT.PBP with POP-FE but how can one load them in IRISMAN (e.g.)? Do they (EBOOT.PBP) need to be converted to another format afterwards? I thought there were only audio problems (hence I thought all issues in games with CDDA tracks had been fixed with POP-FE) but according to you, non-related audio issues occur (and possible on games without CDDA tracks) if not following what you wrote for some games? Also, I used POP-FE to fix the intro's audio issues in NTSC's The Adventures of Lomax and even though the program stated ATRAC3 was uncompleted and the result would not be good, it fixed those issues.

  • Hey. PKG is just a container for the EBOOT.PBP and other files. POP-FE converts game to EBOOT and packages it for installation. You don’t have to load them through IRISMAN, you can then launch the game from XMB. The issues for the games I mentioned are indeed related to the CDDA pregap sensitivity (mostly), which the emulator does not handle properly. Also, older versions of POP-FE have that ATRAC3 message, but newer versions have that omitted. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 17:30, 4 October 2023 (CEST)
    • How can I launch EBOOT.PBP games from the XMB? Also, like I said, in my case POP-FE converts games to PKG, not EBOOT.PBP, anyway.
      • You install the PKG in Package Manager. The game, in EBOOT format, will be selectable from XMB. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 04:51, 5 October 2023 (CEST)~
        • I know PKG files are installed from Package Manager. My question is where can I install EBOOT.PBP games from the XMB. Do I have to put them in the PSXISO folder and load them via a backup manager like IRISMAN?
        • I forgot to say, but don't these PS Developer Wiki have a wrong name? Technically, PS1/PS2 Classics are PKG games made for the PS3 (like you can see here and here) and these lists regard PS1 and PS2 games (even if in some cases their PSN/PS3 counterpart is mentioned), so, they're not in PKG format but in their original PS1/PS2 formats and thus weren't officially meant for the PS3. In this case, shouldn't this page and the PS2 Classics one have the "Classics" part removed from the link, title and text? The PSP Emulator Compatibility List doesn't have that word. What do you think about renaming these pages?
          • Dear Lucas, while it is true what you are saying, we decided long time ago to keep the name "PS2 Classics" together that we both mentioning {{official}} PKG builts as well as homemade .ISO builds or directly from the Disc if your Model is supporting it; together within the same list, mainly to keep things easier for each one contributing to this list together due to other reasons. This is why we introduced the {{official}} Template which suggest that these are the official .PKG builts made by Sony available within their PSN Store. But keep in mind that if you extract one of their {{official}} .PKG builds, you will also find a ISO.BIN.ENC Image file. So Sony is technically doing the same what we are doing here. They only add their security and compatibility flags inside their .PKG files. --Roxanne (talk) 08th October 2023 - 10:25h GMT+1
            • I used POP-FE to convert CCDA games and it didn't convert them to EBOOT.PBB but to PKG and they still worked. Also, what's said in https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS1_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List#Fix_for_CDDA_games isn't true because one doesn't need to merge all BIN files into a single one since I got CDDA ganes to work without merging multiple BIN files into a single one.
              • Yes, which is what the page said originally before it was changed. The game is in EBOOT.PBP format inside the PKG. PKG is something like a ZIP file, it contains the EBOOT. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 06:13, 12 October 2023 (CEST)
                • OK, but CDMage isn't needed for multi-track CDDA games if using POP-FE so could you remove the part one needs to use it? Also, the version I used didn't state ATRAC3 was uncompleted and the result would not be good this time. Is there a way to fix games without converting them to PKG? Maybe if using the mentioned PPF patches? I've never used them.
                  • I am keeping it there as it is still required for BIN/CUE mounting. There is a method of patching games with PPF, but there are only a couple available (Tomb Raider 1 & 2, Ninja), so it is not a valuable method long term. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 14:12, 12 October 2023 (CEST)
                    • What do you mean? I didn't combine them into a single BIN file and it worked.
                      • It is required for mounting BIN/CUE with WebMAN or IRISMAN. They are not compatible with multi-tracks and they need to be merged. That is why that is there, and you were the one that added that in the first place. Anyways, I already added a note saying POP-FE handles the conversion of multi-track games to the section. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 18:39, 12 October 2023 (CEST)
                        • But that is required for all multi-track CUE/BIN games, not only for CDDA ones.
                          • Multi-track IS CDDA. All multi-track games are CDDA. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 20:01, 12 October 2023 (CEST)
                            • OK, but POP-FE already combines them into a single BIN file so psx-comBINe or CDMage aren't needed. That's my point.
                              • But it doesn’t. POP-FE doesn’t combine to a BIN file, it creates an EBOOT to be launched, which is a completely different format. Some people prefer using BIN/CUE for mounting instead of POP-FE/EBOOT. CDmage combines to a single BIN/CUE for mounting in WebMAN, otherwise CDDA does not work as it does not take in multiple BIN files. For games with additional issues (like the games I have mentioned), they require POP-FE/EBOOT format. I’m keeping the section as is because there is nothing I see that needs to be changed at this point. --Mrjaredbeta (talk) 20:23, 12 October 2023 (CEST)
                                • So, what POP-FE actually does is apply PPF patches? Also, are there CDDA PS2 games? How can one play multi-disc PS1 and PS2 games in IRISMAN?
                                • You're right, I made a confusion with another program. I just don't get it why CDMage or psx-comBINe don't fix the issues after combining all BIN files into one and POP-FE or a PPF patch are needed to fix them. Speaking of the latter, when you say it must be applied to BIN, are you saying it needs to be applied to all BIN files before converting them to a single one or to the already combined BIN file? Are there PS2 multi-track/CDDA games?
            • I didn't know there were ISO.BIN.EMC image files inside the PKG ones. Is there such a format or are you saying some have an ISO and others BIN.EMC? Also, if that is true, then shouldn't all CUE+BIN games have no issues on the PS3 (even those that weren't released on the PSN) or the ones that were (inside PKG files according to you) had a "special" treatment unlike those? Also, could you tell me how to run EBOOT.PBP games (in this case, PS1 ones) with IRISMAN? Do I have to put them on the PSXISO folder like the CUE+BIN ones?
