Sony's SKU-numbering is somewhat inconsistent, which makes giving a simple overview quite challenging.
Suffixes
- R (e.g. SCPH-30004R)
- Denotes a console that has a version of DVD Player preinstalled which supports the remote control out of the box (no DVD Player update necessary)
- Only used on SCPH-30XXX SKUs, since this is the only SKU/model number where there would be any ambiguity regarding out-of-the-box remote control support
- Color suffixes (Japan-only)
- Only in japan, different color variants of the same SKU have different suffixes behind the model number, e.g. :
- CB (for charcoal black)
- SS (for satin silver)

- Bundle and special edition suffixes
- Some PS2 bundles got their own SKU-suffix, including on the console itself, despite the hardware not being any different to the non-bundled variant, e.g. :
- GT (on the Gran Turismo 4 Prologue bundle in Japan and Asia)
- GU (the limited Gundam bundle in Japan)
- In other instances, Sony instead decided to give bundles their own model number variant
- Some PS2 bundles got their own SKU-suffix, including on the console itself, despite the hardware not being any different to the non-bundled variant, e.g. :
