Major hardware revision, this console saw the disappearance of the card readers, where the flap became a static part of the shell. The GS has been removed from the motherboard, removing the final piece of PS2 hardware and as a result no longer backwards compatible with PS2 games. SACD support removed. The amount of USB ports has been halved from 4 to 2, and it now features a shrunken 65nm CELL/BE.
 
There is a significantly lower wattage power supply and the cooling system has been redesigned, in particular the front vents to the right of the USB ports have been removed. This was the last model to use NAND onboard storage.
